I’m planning to hike in Roxborough State Park this weekend. Which trails are these pictures from? thanks!
If you are ever near Estes Park or Fort Collins then check out some cool hikes I have documented for Rocky Mountain National Park and Lory State Park.
Also, if you hike with kids or pets then check out child carrier backpacks and/or collapsible dog water bowls.
The images from Roxborough SP were taken off of the road that cuts through the park. From the parking lot, i headed southeast on the main trail. It opened up into that basin area.
Hope that helps!
BRAAAVO! My boys love the good ol’ stand-by of mac n’ cheese but this version is perfect for the whole family! Great music and the video is displayed beautifully! Looking forward to the next installment from the ‘Food Nerd’…
A very refined technique consists of “dragging” the shutter. This means setting a shutter speed lower than necessary when using a flash. This technique is used to correctly expose both the main subject and the background. Select the shutter speed and the aperture to ensure a correct exposure of the background with just the ambient light and set the flash power for correctly exposing the main subject with the set aperture.
Nice article,
very helpful
Nice job! You are a true artist.
Thanks Woody, I appreciate that. I am very glad you like the photos. I have sent the rest of the photos on to Lindsay.
Ahhh…wedding photography – what a great job – love the small kit you used!
Warf – I shoot max pixels with thick histograms (thanks to the SB800) @ 14bit on the D300. Lots of flexibility, less stress, and fewer backaches!
Thanks for this post…great info I can certainly use when shooting in the harsh, glaring sun here in Fort Worth in the summer.
How do they find their way from Flickr to Panarimo? My pictures in and around Kyoto are much better than the snapshots in Google Earth, but last I looked, Panarimo required you to manually upload each picture through their browser, and while I’d like to contribute my photos to the Google Earth effort, it’s just not worth that much work. If I could find an automated way to contribute, I would do it.
Hi,
I am a beginner @ digital photography with a Nikon D90 in hand.
Could you give me any tips/pointers on the post-production effects you used on the images above? I love that effect (slight vignetting with the dark strong colors).
Thanks,
Ed
Why use Image capture? Why not just connect the camera and download directely into either Aperture or iPhoto?
hello Rudy,
What a beautiful photo of the Italian Villa at Ravenna. Would you mind contacting me in regards to using this picture as part of a painting am I currently doing? Many thanks for your time and consideration on this matter. sincerely tom

Sagan sure had a way about him, didn’t he?
Looking forward to the rest of the road trip! I have my shooting hat on.
Amazing photos! Looks cold out there…
Deceptively cold. Getting out and taking pictures is a good idea while you are sitting in a nice warm car.
Rudy, Great post! I was wondering where you found your filters software and if it’s available for purchase. Does it add on to Photoshop is it a separate software?
Thanks again!
Thanks Casey, I will put up an ad for the filter software. It is a separate program, but it functions like a plugin in photoshop.
Hey I also meant to ask if there where any specific setting that you prefer when using Photomatix Pro. You just stated that you have a default you use but that seems to be an area I fail at.
Casey, here is a screen cap of my settings, hopefully that will provide a bit of a starting point. Keep in mind that I have my camera set very specifically for my needs and my RAW output is going to be different than yours. Finding a good tone mapping combination is mostly a matter of trial and error.
Hopefully I can add a link here.
Casey, this is the software.
It’s funny, this day seemed really cold… Until a day like to day when it’s -2 degrees out. Obviously my photos don’t look quite like Rudy’s but it was a great day.
Here’s my version of the trip!
Great set! Amazing colors in so many of those photos!
Thank you very much. For a gloomy city, it sure has a lot of pretty sunsets.
Rudy,
Fantastic image of the Seattle skyline! I am envious that you made the move to Washington State. Picture opportunities are around every corner. Just curious-what took you away from Colorado and off to Washington?
